PC-RR -- PC Railroading
In the absence of "official documentation", this represents what I
have learned while playing the game. I have not disassembled or "cracked"
the software; consequently, I may have missed some features.
Two programs are provided. The first, PC-RR operates the layouts
each containing up to 5 trains. The other PC-NEWRR creates or builds the
railroad. In general, the programs do not respond to lower case letters
so you should operate with CAPS LOCK on.
After you choose your layout, press a right or left arrow key to see
the speed indicators. The function keys operate the trains. Each pair of
keys (1-2, 3-4, etc.) provide forward and reverse motion for one train.
The other keys, (A thru Z plus [ \ ] / 3 7 ; 4 < > # ) operate or toggle
the switches. Each switch is labeled. I recommend that you try out all
the switches before you run any trains to familiarize yourself with the
layout. To choose another layout or quit altogether, use the ESC (escape)
key. Don't be afraid, fully automatic "Computer Block Control" will
prevent any train wrecks.
PC-NEWRR is the program that creates the track layouts. At the
beginning, you are asked to "Enter the layout name". This will become the
filename of the layout so it must conform to DOS filename standards. Do
not add the filename extension. Remember use CAPS LOCK on during layout
creation.
On the empty screen that follows, press "D" to draw a line. Pressing
"E" will erase the last segment (or more) that you drew. Use "U" to stop
drawing (pen-Up). When your layout is complete, press ":" to signal the
program. Don't goof now, because you can't go back. There seems to be NO
EDITING of old layouts or routes.
A note to you designers out there; there are 37 labels for up to 38
switches in your layout. If you use more (PC-NEWRR lets you have as many
as you want), PC-RR will bomb when you try to run your railroad.
Now position your trains using the number keys 1 to 5. You can
reposition a train by moving the cursor and pressing the same number
again. You can not place the train on a curved track. When finished,
press ":" again. The layout will now be generated and saved for use by
PC-RR.
Just one final word. Enjoy and happy railroading.
